Journey through the highlands of Tusheti region

Life in the Caucasus mountains is unimaginable without a horse. The Caucasian Mountains are the homeland of such breeds of great endurance and beauty as the Kabardo, Tusheti, etc.. Riding a horse through the mountain villages you immediately feel not merely a guest or a visitor but a participant in that chivalrous life that used to be led up here and traces of which are still in the air today. Interesting places, beautiful views, delicious food, wine and good company will fill the trip of livelong impressions.

  • Day 1:

    Arrival in Tbilisi; met and assisted at the airport.

  • Day 2:

    Tbilisi – Telavi; half day sightseeing tour of Tbilisi and transfer to Kakheti region – the land of wine.

  • Day 3:

    Telavi – Omalo; journey towards Tusheti highlands over the Abano pass- enjoy driving along the one of the most impressive mountain roads.

  • Day 4:

    Omalo – Oreti Lake – Omalo; become acquainted with the horses enjoy ride to Oreti Lake. Ride through the forest and alpine meadows; enjoy impressive views of Tusheti region. (28 km: elevation 1670 m up and down)

  • Day 5:

    Omalo – Shenako – Diklo – Omalo; ride to picturesque and remote villages Shenako and Diklo, both impressive with unique architecture and towers. (21 km: elevation 450 m up and down)

  • Day 6:

    Omalo – Dartlo; ride to Dartlo village across the peaceful valleys of Tusheti highlands. (16 km: elevation 230 m up and down)

  • Day 7:

    Dartlo - Kvavlo – Dano – Chesho; full day trekking from one remote village to another. (8 km: elevation 320 m up and down)

  • Day 8:

    Chesho – Girevi – Omalo; follow up the Pirikita Alazani River to the last populated village Girevi. Ride back to Omalo via Parsma and Dartlo villages. (24 km: elevation 480 m up and down)

  • Day 9:

    Omalo -Telavi; visit Kesselo fortress and drive to Telavi. En route visit Alaverdi cathedral.

  • Day 10:

    Telavi – Tbilisi; drive to Tbilisi. Evening free to rest and relax.

  • Day 11:

    Departure; transfer to the airport.
